FULL REVIEW: B BOUTIQUE HOTEL

When I first decided to post about my stay at B Boutique Hotel, I decided I would do a brief Photo Journal. Sometimes when I set myself to write I feel like I'm babbling and nobody is actually reading except for yours truly. But the response I've gotten for this post has been ridiculous...ridiculously generous, I've gotten more praise than the actual hotel as if I deserved any, I thought I owed it to you to write a full-on review. So here it goes, the full scoop on B Boutique Hotel.

From the moment you start descending on the curvy coastal highway you know you are in for a treat. As we drove away from a rainy day in the city I crossed my fingers and prayed to the Gods of Good Weather we could catch some rays, and so they heard me. As we started our descent towards La Libertad, clouds magically discipated and the sun began to shine. I took it as a good omen for the wonderful next couple of hours that were to come.

The discreet simple black garage door is the perfect disguise for the entry to Paradise, well played B Boutique Hotel; well played... And although the entryway still needs some work done, you soon forget about it as you are met with the nicest smiles in La Libertad. From the moment we set foot on the property, we were greeted by Reina, who didn't allow us to carry our weekend bags or anything else for that matter...for the rest of our stay. Not in that annoying kind of way, but in that refreshing, polite, just nice kind of way some small hotels have yet to master.

We were guided to the impeccable all-white lobby, where the most refreshing cold towels and strawberry and basil cocktails awaited. I knew, Adriana the Hotel Manager, was talking to me, explaining the hotel's concept and amenities but frankly I couldn't pull my face from the window admiring the breathtaking views of the pacific ocean waves crashing against the jaw dropping rocky cliff in which the hotel is incrusted. Never had I been more grateful to have my smartphone with me, and never had I given its camera more and better use than during this stay. I knew I had to somehow share the specialness of this place, and if words wouldn't do it, images would definitely do!

We were then shown to our suite to leave our personal belongings, room four of four. This one was propably the spaciest, but we got to see all four rooms, and must say they were all equally comfortable. I'll make a brief parenthesis here to say that a couple of days before checking in, I was contacted by Adriana to check with me which aroma I wanted to greet us upon entering our room, and to take my pick of toiletries (L'Occitane). I loved everything about this room. The sleek modern white furniture, the wooden headboard, and the bed, Oh! the bed! The room in general was clean, spacious, modern, and peaceful, much like the rest of the hotel. Adriana gave us a quick lesson on how to use all remotes, curtains and TV's, but frankly I wasn't planning on spending much time in front of the TV so I skipped this one. Our corner windows allowed us to admire the vastness of the pacific ocean from bed and the beautiful sun setting behind the rocky cliffs.

Adriana gave us a tour of the hotel pool, deck, bar and ''la cueva'', which is basically a grotto below the infinity pool, where you can feel the breeze of the ocean and the waves crashing against the very cliff you're standing on. My ADD, kicked in when I heard ''bottle of wine at sunset in La Cueva''. I think my husband knew right there and then he'd lost me for good...or for the weekend at the very least.

We took this brief getaway with two other couples, close friends of ours, who joined us later but were greeted with the same royal treatment as we were. When we had all gathered ourselves from oohing and aahing, we were offered complimentary drinks by the pool, and a ginger mango chutney with crackers I still dream of. The next couple of hours were spent contemplating and immortalizing the changing skies as the sun set upon us. We saw the whole fifty shades of the most gorgeous pinks, purples, oranges, yellows and blues.

At 8 we were given the choice of our dinner location, and thanks again to the Gods of Good Weather, we were able to dine al fresco on the pool's deck. The table was beautifully set with candles and frankly I can't remember what else, all I could hear, see and taste was my shrimp stuffed lobster au gratin...and more wine of course...(I must mention lunch and dinner services are provided by Beto's a local traditional authority in Seafood and Salvadoran Cuisine).

After whining like my five year old refusing to go to school every day, I finally managed to leave the bed the next morning to find a beautifully arranged buffet of fresh fruit, granola, yogurt, cheese, fresh orange juice and local tamales.

The best way to digest breakfast and this whole experience? a complimentary 30 minute massage by the omnipresent Reina, which I don't recall much, as I dosed off as soon as I smelled the Sweet Almond Oil.

The brief few hours that followed, were spent lounging by the pool with more than one michelada in hand dreading our departure. But we soon gathered the courage to leave (they were too polite to kick us out) knowing that we would soon be back...

Five stars? Try six.

Heaven on El Salvador's Pacific Coast: B Boutique Hotel

My husband's birthday is coming up, and after eight years I have run out of gift ideas. I've taken every hint and given him handmade gifts, gadgets, and everything on his Amazon wish list. So this year I decided to give him something different, rather than buy him a gift I though I'd give him an experience and create a memory he could cherish for many birthdays to come. A couple of weeks ago, I was browsing though my Instagram pics and found quite a special place,  and thought I'd book a weekend getaway. At the time I didn't know I was in for more than just an escapade, I was about to get a glimpse of Paradise.

This secluded cliffside gem is incrusted on the rocky pacific coast of tiny and beautiful El Salvador, Central America. I'll skip the praising and writing and let my shameful smartphone images and breathtaking views do the talking (which frankly don't do justice to the place). I must however give a shout to the wonderful staff, who gave us the royal treatment from our welcome cocktail and complimentary massage, pampered us throughout our sadly brief stay, to our even sadder departure.

Five stars are not enough to rate this romantic, unforgettable, luxurious, slice of paradise.

XO,
From Paradise!

FOR THE LOVE OF SAMPLES

www.glossybox.com

By now I've probably over shared my many addictions on L'Art de Vivre, and you've probably reached the same conclusion as I have: this girl needs help! Yet I have no intention of tackling this issue or enforcing self control anytime soon. This one however, I know for sure will resonate amongst my fellow addicts, here's my latest confession: I AM A SAMPLE ADDICT. Beauty samples, makeup samples, perfume samples, you name it. As long as their free and TSA friendly I'll tak'em all!!! You know that annoying customer who is always lurking around Sephora and beauty and makeup counters at department stores harassing employees for samples?...yup, that's me.

I introduce you to my Sample Bowl. One of many laying around in my bathroom, closet, bedroom, guest bedroom, guest bathroom; all over my house in fact, and Oh how my guests love this little treat to welcome their stay (so much I will usually find them half empty upon their departure!) This crystal treasure chest holds sample sized moisturizers, foundations, facial soaps and cleansers, shampoos, conditioners, self-tanners, facial scrubs, makeup removers, mascaras, face masks, teeth whiteners, and all you beauty junkies can thinks about!

Aside from decorating any space, these sample bowls serve many purposes. Whenever I'm in a rush, I'll grab a couple of these babies and apply them on the run. Specially my moisturizer. If I know I'll be having a long day I'll stock up on perfume samples to apply later on in the day, or for a night out right after work. I'll also throw a couple of samples in my makeup bag to always carry them with me, which I'll replace whenever I use them up, and I even have my very own version of an Emergency Kit composed of these tiny lifesavers, which I'll usually leave in my car and office, for that kind of emergencies.

Beauty Samples are a great way of trying new products without committing to a full size bottle (and the full size investment!) In an industry in which every week beauty companies launch new and improved beauty and makeup products, each promising quicker and better results, it's hard to keep up and not give in to the the temptation of trying them all. Samples allow you to try and see for yourself if these are the right products for you. This is how I've discovered many of my favorites over the past few years, and those I shouldn't even bother buying.

Nordstrom has great sample giveaways online. I will usually purchase all my fragrance and makeup favorites online (those which are a recurring purchase only) whenever I see a giveaway going on with any beauty or grooming purchases, just for the samples. Upon entering a promotional code you will have a pick of three to five samples, plus a gorgeous makeup gift bag packed with these treats (sometimes including full sized prods!).

As if mind readers, over the last couple of years Beauty Sampling Services or Beauty Subscription Boxes have become a major DO. Following the wine, cheese or whatever-of-the-month club model, you pay a monthly or annual subscription fee starting from $10 a month up to $220 a year, and you will periodically receive on your doorstep (monthly, twice, thrice a year, or whichever option you choose)  a box full of these goodies (that will best suit your beauty needs according to a profile you must first fill in and submit upon subscription) which will vary in every delivery and will include from high-end most coveted beauty faves to eco-friendly brands.

Carta a Elena...HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY GIRL!!!

This post has no translation. Please excuse me for posting it in my native spanish but I just felt this had to be posted exactly as it had been written, five years ago (you can use the translate widget below). Every year on her birthday I write a letter to my daughter and take her footprints. This was not the first letter  (I think I've been writing to her well before I was even pregnant) but it is definitely a very special one. It was inspired by one of my favorite spanish books: ''Donde el corazón te lleve'' by Susanna Tamaro, and of course by the inexplicable strength of this little warrior. I wrote this to her when we were first able to take her out of the incubator to take her footprints for hospital paperwork (Elena was a preemie born at 33 weeks). The first time I held her she was 8 days old. The actual size of her footprints is a little under two inches!!! Today she turns 5...yet I still get the same ache in my heart to think she was once so little, so weak, so vulnerable. There and then, I swore I would take care of this baby girl with my life. Even today, her strength and love for life never cease to amaze me.

Note her tiny head was the size of my husband's thumb!!!

Siempre tendrás a tu fiel compañero; tu corazoncito.

Ten paciencia, tú llegarás a tu ritmo y a tu momento.

Tu Mami.

Whenever I'm away from her, this is exactly how I like to picture her:
